Wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining)
The wire EDM process uses a thin wire to supply the electrical current to machine electrically conductive materials. All the wire EDM machines at Metal Products are suitable for materials which are considered too hard, where adhesion is a problem for traditional machining or for materials typically machined by grinding. These materials include tool steel with hardness above HRC 38, Tungsten Carbide, Stellite, Hastelloy, Nitralloy, Waspaloy, Nimonic and Inconel.
EDM is ideal when secondary operations are too labor intensive to justify more traditional machining operations. EDM allows for cutting complex shapes and thin walled configurations without distortion.
